How does a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Session feel?

Hanna Somatic Education -
Methods of somatic education teach specialized somatic movement techniques in systematized ways that are specific to each method. Well-known methods of somatic education include Clinical Somatic Education (also known as Hanna Somatic Education), Gentle Somatic Yoga ( Thomas Hanna Somatic ) the Feldenkrais Method and the Alexander Technique.
Many methods include the use of both hands-on movements, guided by a certified practitioner and self-care movements, which are practiced by the student on a regular basis at home. One of the tenets of all forms of somatic education is that students should be responsible for their own health and learning.
Our role is to empower students to take care of themselves by repeating the tools so change is sustained over a long term regime, improving their posture, movement and function cumulatively in their lives.
A somatic movement, generally speaking, is one which is performed consciously with the intention of focusing on the internal experience of the movement rather than the external appearance or result of the movement. The term somatic has become a bit of a buzzword in the health and wellness industry. The word somatic means “of or relating to the living body,” and it has long been used in medical terminology like somatic cell, somatic nervous system, somatic disorder, and somatic pain.
The term somatic can be used to describe a variety of forms of movement and healing modalities, such as somatic yoga, somatic experiencing, somatic psychology, somatic therapy, or somatic dance therapy. You may have even heard of somatic education!
The term somatic education was coined by Thomas Hanna. Hanna used the term somatic education to describe methods of sensory-motor education that use somatic movement to improve motor control and sensation and change learned muscular patterns.
What is Sensory Motor Amnesia?
We experience Sensory Motor Amnesia (SMA) when the brain forgets how to relax; tight, contracted muscles that are, in effect, on “cruise control. ”The Sensory and Motor Cortex" are
area of systems in your brain that receive information from the environment and allow us to respond accordingly through movement.
As we age, we experience stress in various forms and we develop habits that result in storing pain and tension subconsciously. In effect, the brain forgets how to move the muscles and also forgets which muscles are contributing to the pain. In other words, with SMA, the muscles stay contracted and you feel muscular pain even when you “think” the body “should” be relaxed.
What to Expect from Gentle Somatic Yoga:
Somatics is much safer than many other modalities as well with its approach of gentleness, listening to the body’s signals while movement takes place. One important ingredient to the
main technique we use, called “pandiculation” is very slow, controlled voluntary motion as mentioned above.
This slowness is the fastest way to change the signals from brain to muscle and the pace enhances strengthening. Pause and rest after movement flows, encourages the brain to reset and calibrate while repetition solidifies the healthy pattern of movement. A short set of somatics makes a perfect “pre-warm up” for other physical activities, as it brings the muscles
to optimum resting length and function, increases circulation, enhances awareness & control, therefore serves as a very effective injury preventative method.

I am a horse trainer assistant and am always shoveling and taking care of the horses, noticeably from my right side, as Virginia pointed out after assessing my posture. I showed her that my right thumb couldn't fold into my palm, due to repetitive work patterns.

HISTORY OF ESSENTIAL OILS:
Since ancient times and from the beginning of recorded history the plant kingdom has provided rare and powerful extracts and essences that have long been prized for their beauty enhancing, medicinal, spiritual, aromatic and therapeutic value as Nature’s Source for health, healing, vitality and longevity!
Aromatic plants, essences and oils have been used for ages in ceremony, religious observances, beauty care, food preparation and preservation, as incense and for perfumes. Aromatic plants have also been the basis for herbal and botanical medicines and remedies for thousands of years. In fact, they’re the root of today’s pharmaceuticals. The earliest essential oils usage evidence occurs in the period of 3000-2500 B.C. It’s common for Egyptians to be given credit as the first culture to use aromatic extracts for beauty care, culinary uses, spiritual and physical well-being. But it is believed that essential oil-like extracts were also being used in China and India at nearly the same time. Depending on who is citing historical evidence, you can also find references to Ayurvedic uses of essential oils in India much earlier.
Here is some lineage of the findings of zone therapy technique. Through research, Dr. Ersdal was able to chart the human anatomy as it relates to these “points” on the foot. He charted the entire physiology including the brain, blood and lymph circulation, and musculature. He determined that the body contains its own innate healing intelligence which is stimulated or triggered through specific and intricate zones on the foot. This method utilizes the feet’s natural “signal” system to establish balance, elevate your life energy and renew cells in the body. Importantly, the body consistently responded as a dynamically interrelated whole system, rather than as separate symptomatic parts.
Zone Therapy or otherwise known as Reflexology today, is precise, directed pressure to the various “zones” of the feet. When a signal point is triggered within a certain zone, a message goes to the tissue or organ affected, through a reflex arc to the spinal cord and then it is sent to the brain to determine further processing.
Discomfort, tenderness or pain is experienced in the areas of the foot where a relationship of imbalance may be present. This is an area that requires more attention with light touch for support, directed toward self-healing.
Applied Reflexology through the 10 zones on the feet, stimulates every organ and associated region, renewing the cellular system by drawing oxygenated blood to the surrounding tissue in relationship to the organ, it aids in moving energy and waking up tissue tone or elasticity.
Vita Flex technique was developed by the Tibetans thousands of years before acupuncture. Its literally meaning is "vitality through the reflexes". The premise is that slight pressure applied to the body creates an electric charge that is therapeutic to the body. This is known as piezoelectric. The pressure comes from the rolling motion of the finger pads, tips and nails, creates the stimulation similar to how an electric switch or circuit works.
The electrical energy that is produced during the technique transfers to the nerve pathways, is how Vita Flex works. Once the energy finds a gap in the circuit, it repairs the break in the pathway that is creating the imbalance in the body. Analogy example; If there is a short in the wire along an electrical circuit that is controlling a light, the light would not function. When the short is repaired, the circuit would "reset" and the function would be restored!

What to Expect from a Signature Thai Massage Session?
You lye on a mat on the floor or table, fully clothed, shoes removed. Your Thai Practitioner Virginia, uses her thumbs, palms, forearms, elbows, feet, knees and even shins to press and stretch your body and connective tissue. The Thai people believe resolution from the unhindered flow of vital energies through the body's tissues is said to free the trapped energy vortexes or holding patterns where tension and pain reside.
The main 'channels' for distributing these energies are called 'Sen'. There is no general agreement as to the exact number of Sen lines, but those who know something of Chinese Medicine quickly recognize that the Thai practitioner is effectively working along the Chinese Qi meridians.
Pressing is the mechanical process used to stimulate energy flow in the Sen channel or line and to release blockages or stagnation which result in pain and tightness. This part of the Thai massage can be very thorough due to the longer session time and accuracy of sensing.
Varying Sen channels are pressed repeatedly from every direction, with the relative positions of the limbs and trunk being constantly changed. Again the process is quite thorough. When Virginia, your Thai Practitioner is satisfied that the soft tissues have been adequately pressed, stretching begins. This is the active participation of yogic nature that influences the Thai Practitioners training and skill.
This will be subtle at first but gradually progresses to the elegant, large scale stretches for which Thai massage is renowned. Many muscles, joints and connective tissue or fascia is given attention and with a cumulative plan in place, your body recognizes through the repetition of light to moderate touch how to release chronic tension.
Benefits of Signature Thai Massage:
The Thai have long recognized that most musculo-skeletal pain and lack of mobility of the joints is the result of muscles shortening under the influence of repetitive strain and the lack of natural interstitial fluids. Tension and spasm in a muscle are the result of a vicious circle of events involving the muscle and its sense organs; those muscles that are antagonistic to it and the brain. The more tense the muscle becomes, the shorter it gets and the brain interprets this as contraction, thus inhibiting the function of the antagonistic muscles, which weaken as a result.
The pressing techniques of Thai massage prepare muscles for stretching by increasing their permeability to the flow of Sen Energies in order to feel more flexible. Now that your fluid tissue has more elasticity from the pressing and palming, the manipulations are designed to stretch the muscles a little more, than would be possible unassisted.
Regular Thai massage sessions offers opportunity for muscles to regain their normal resting length, which deceives the brain into 'thinking' that all is well and it stops inhibiting the antagonists. Before long, tension disappears, joint mobility is restored and gives access to a healthy life with freedom again.

How does a Signature Thai Massage feel?

"When I was introduced to Virginia, I explained that I hadn't slept through the night in over 10 years. She listened to my words of desperation, thus educating me about the many layers of the body in terms I understood. She talked about a system of pulleys in relationship with my whole body.

Signature Restorative Yoga:
This is a great way to reduce stress in your life. The nurturing, supportive practice offers a refuge from the daily accumulation of stress. Based on the Iyengar tradition, postures are held with the use of props to allow you to hold the postures for an extended period of time. The long holds are between 5 - 20 minutes and they give the body's nervous system an opportunity to allow for a sense of letting go. A cumulative practice will show signs of a calmer system.
Virginia's expertise and empathy in the juicy postures come from her own journey with yoga. Some of the 'easiest' poses were so difficult for her and it took her body/system years to be at a relaxed state. This is a great compliment to other forms of activity and excellent for recuperation, hypersensitivities, sleep deprivation, whiplash, muscle stiffness and forms of arthritis and pain concerns.
Private sessions will range from 75 - 90 minutes as time is needed to set up each posture and for the body to let go gradually.

Signature Yin Yoga:
Yin is a rich complement to the more muscular forms of activity. It emphasizes the deep release of connective tissues, primarily through the hips, thighs, pelvis and lower spine. Dynamic movement and pandiculation provides the body's system the opportunity to expand its' fluid elasticity.
Postures are held for longer periods of time after the dynamic movement, anywhere between 3-10 minutes. While the core focus afterward, gives vast improvement in physical flexibility and sets the foundation for deepening, or establishing a meditation practice.
This can be quite challenging for students of any age and physical health. Using the breath to focus the mind so it becomes centered and calm as stillness prevails.
Once the mind is calm, observation can be present. Mindfulness is good for your body and your mind as to aids in increasing grey matter density. What this means for you is the increased ability to tune out distractions, improve memory, attention and skills, regulate emotions and while drawing awareness to signals of the onset of anxiety and depression.
Benefits of Signature Yin Yoga:

* High blood pressure; probably the most important yoga poses to avoid are inversions. This is because when the head is below the heart, there's an increased risk of stroke.
* Imbalance of ear fluid
